Southbury Senior Services Grocery Brigade Takes Action

The Town of Southbury Senior Services, with the support of many local groups and volunteers, continue the shopping and delivery of groceries Monday through Friday. Seniors can submit their grocery needs and review updates to the program by visiting: www.southbury-ct.org/groceriesforseniors.

The senior should make every effort to create a shopping list for enough groceries for two weeks so we can serve all those who are in need.

Any senior that does not have access to the internet can call the Senior Center 475-207-5504. Please have the information listed below with your prepared list so that it can be read to us over the phone.

They should include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Food Allergies
  • Food Restrictions
  • Whether they will accept substitutions if their item is not available.

Important information for senior:

  • This is an offer to get your grocery shopping done so you do not need to leave your house.
  • If you are calling us with your list, please have it ready before you call the Senior Center at 475-207-5504
  • Be prepared to get a phone call from the shopping volunteer who will tell you the cost of the groceries so you may write your check payable to the Town of Southbury.
  • Either tape the check to the outside of your door or place it under your doormat.
  • We are only accepting checks payable to the Town of Southbury
  • Remain in your house until after the volunteer has left.

Your preparedness assists us in keeping up with the many daily calls we are handling. As our numbers and demands grow, it is important for you to place an order that will last you two weeks, as we will not be able to shop more frequently than every two weeks.

Order Restrictions:

  • Orders will not be accepted from Watermark and Pomperaug Woods. We encourage you seek staff at your facility for grocery assistance.
  • Due to the number of seniors {the Grocery Brigade} is serving, if you have family locally that can shop for you, we greatly appreciate you asking them for help in order to assist us to help seniors that do not have family locally.
  • Changes to your list after the order is submitted is not permitted.
  • We cannot use food stamps.
  • Payment by check must be payable to the Town of Southbury and no tips are accepted.

Lastly, we appreciate your patience as we do our best to serve all of you during this time of need. For questions or comments, please call the Southbury Senior Center at 475-207-5504.
