Federation Statement on Terrorist Shootings in Jerusalem

We mourn with our sisters and brothers in Israel and Jewish communities throughout the world over the loss of seven lives and injuries to many others in two separate shooting terror attacks in Jerusalem that occurred yesterday and today. We extend our condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery for those who were injured.

The first of the attacks, targeting worshippers leaving Friday night services,  occurred as we in America were observing International Holocaust Remembrance Day. These hateful incidents occurring on Friday and Saturday in Jerusalem serve as another reminder that the kind of unreasoned hate and dehumanization of the Jewish people that led to the Shoah continues to exist today.

The Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut has been working hard to educate our community with respect to the present wave of  Antisemitism targeting Jews in our country and around the world. These attacks in Israel also serve as a reminder that Israel continues to be the main target of Antisemitism and of the urgent need for the United States to continue to support Israel’s efforts to protect its citizens.
