SHARING HA’ATZMAUT JOY WITH OUR FRIENDS AT GREATER WATERBURY INTERFAITH MINISTRIES
The Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut recently connected with Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries to share in celebration of Israel’s 73rd Independence Day.
The Federation showed its support of GWIM’s community work feeding the hungry and empowering the homeless and underprivileged to become self-sufficient by arranging for 10 dozen cupcakes to be baked and delivered to GWIM by Sweet Maria’s bakery owner, Maria Sanchez, on Friday, April 16.
The Federation also noted National Volunteer Appreciation Month by commending the efforts of GWIM volunteer Michael Keating and his nonprofit, Step by Step, which collects bottles and cans for recycling and donates the proceeds to food banks and shelters in the Waterbury area.
“Although the Federation’s principal focus is the Jewish community, we know Judaism also requires that we work hard to improve the world for everyone,” said Gary Jones, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut. “We thank GWIM, Michael and all others who do so much to help our community.”
